Drop a MongoDB Node
A clear, step-by-step guide that details the process of dropping a MongoDB node from your replica set. This overview focuses on executing the essential commands to remove the node, ensuring it is properly decommissioned and eliminated from your cluster—all without delving into advanced decommissioning configurations or long-term maintenance tasks.
Take a look at the primary node, your central hub for managing your cluster, alongside a standby node for backup operations.

When you’re ready to delete a node, simply drag it from the nodes inventory onto the bin icon to initiate the deletion process.

Then, type "drop me" to confirm your decision and move forward.

By default, a final backup will run automatically before deletion; if you wish to skip this step, simply uncheck the box.

Instantly, a REST API command is generated — your key to automating future node drop operations with your DEVOPS tool.

Once everything looks good, press Submit to start the drop process.

You'll see a status update indicating that the drop process has begun, followed by another update confirming that the node was dropped successfully.

And there you have it—your node has been decommissioned and is now removed from the cluster!
